Contemporary architecture, with its functional and purely material tendencies, has distanced itself from the concepts of human communication in space and has reduced spiritual and social ties. This research aims to identify and compare the communication dimensions in traditional and modern architecture, examining the perceptual and value differences between them. In terms of purpose, the research is exploratory, in terms of application, it is applied, and in terms of method, it is qualitative. Data were first collected through documentary study and then in the field stage using in-depth semi-structured interviews and forming a focus group. Sampling was carried out using the snowball method and continued until data saturation was reached. Data analysis was carried out using the inductive content analysis method in four stages of coding, grouping, categorization, and discovery of abstraction. The results of the analysis of 141 statements were organized into three main categories: communication with God, communication with the environment, and communication with fellow human beings and society. In traditional architecture, 21 propositions were extracted in the axis of communication with God, 29 propositions in the axis of communication with the environment, and 18 propositions in the axis of communication with society; while in modern architecture, 24, 27, and 22 propositions were recorded, respectively. Comparison of the frequency of data showed that the share of communication components in traditional architecture is on average about 20 to 25 percent higher than in modern architecture. This gap indicates a significant decrease in the quality of human communication with existence in contemporary spaces. The final findings showed that traditional architecture, with its introverted structure, the presence of nature, and a sacred orientation, provided a platform for spiritual and social interaction; but modern architecture, by ignoring the ethical and social dimensions of design, has led to a rupture in the relationships between humans, the environment, and society. Accordingly, returning to the communication patterns of traditional architecture can pave the way for strengthening social cohesion and improving the quality of human interactions in contemporary settlements.
