One of the important goals of education in architecture is to increase the thinking power of the designer and his mentality; Therefore, it seems necessary to identify the factors related to the design process and especially thinking in design. In order to improve the quality of education, based on cognitive research, it is necessary to investigate cognitive structures in education. On this basis, cognitivism is interested in investigating cognitive processes and how they are processed. Among the cognitive variables related to design thinking mentality are creativity, flexibility, skill and cognitive ability. The purpose of this research was to predict the design thinking mentality based on creativity, ability and cognitive flexibility of students. Therefore, the main question was whether it is possible to predict design thinking mentality based on creativity, cognitive abilities and cognitive flexibility? The present research method was descriptive-correlation. In the current research, the statistical population includes all architecture students of Hamadan Girls' Technical and Vocational University in the academic year of 2019-1400. Sampling method, 278 people were selected in the available way. The tools used in the research included Abedi's creativity questionnaire (1372), Dennis and Vanderwaal's cognitive flexibility questionnaire (2010), and Nejati's cognitive skills and abilities questionnaire (1392). Relationships between variables were investigated using the correlation method. The results of the research showed that the research variables of cognitive skill and ability, creativity and cognitive flexibility have the ability to predict with 41% of the changes of the criterion variable, i.e. design thinking. In other words, with the standardized regression coefficient of social cognitive skill and ability (0.16), non-social cognitive ability (0.26), cognitive flexibility (0.32) and creativity (0.43) which are good predictors for design thinking. Since the variables of creativity, ability and cognitive flexibility are related to the mindset of design thinking; Therefore, it is suggested to pay attention to the training of comprehensive cognitive skills and abilities in the form of training courses in the curriculum planning with the aim of professional development and training of skilled designers.
