title = {Examining the Effect of Increasing Gibson’s Semantic Levels on Non-profit School Students’ Environmental Satisfaction in Tehran’s District},
abstract ={The discussion of man and his alienation in contemporary environments has become an important challenge in environmental psychology studies. Gibson as a theorist in the field of environmental psychology studies, introduces the component of meaning and divides it into six levels, the sixth of which is the ultimate connection between man and the environment. From the audience’s point of view, what is the view towards this issue, and what do they expect from the establishment of meaning levels in educational spaces? In other words, the purpose of the study is to determine the level of students’ expectations of establishing meaning levels and also to determine the relationship between increasing levels and environmental satisfaction of the main audience of such spaces. The research methodology is positivist, with emphasis on quantitative basic data and quantitative research. In the data collection phase, the selected method is a survey method, and in the discussion and analysis phase, the research method is based on statistical reasons and with an explanatory descriptive nature. Gibson’s semantic levels and ideal student status are considered as the two main variables of the study, which are used to determine the correlation relationship between these two variables using Pearson coefficient. Finally, this study concludes that increasing semantic levels in the interior space is more important for the audience of the space and after that the yard has the highest correlation coefficient, but in the entrance space, increasing the semantic levels has an inverse relationship with students’ environmental satisfaction and they do not seek to increase semantic levels in such spaces.},

title = {Typology of the Form and the Role of the Frames Covered in the Stucco Decorations Made during 8th Century in Iran},
abstract ={The stucco decorations of the 8th century AH are considered as the most significant decorations of this era’s architecture which has made the Ilkhanid period known as the Stucco Age. These stuccos were implemented in most parts of buildings with different uses including exterior parts, gable, archs of Mihrab, surfaces of the walls and margins, as a simple reinforced type in design and construction technique. Scrutinizing reveals that these stuccos have several visual features that could have the stylistic features of stucco decorations in the mentioned period of time. The goal of this research is to introduce and study various types of frames or strip shapes in the field of plant decoration and inscriptions of the stucco decorations made during this period through studying the overall structure and the decorations existing in this frame-like form. Thus, the most important question of this research is as follows: What are different types of frames in the stucco decorations of the buildings and what are the features of these frames in terms of form variation, shape and decoration? The data was collected through wide field studies and using written resources with a descriptive-historical method and comparative approach. The results, obtained from studying 11 buildings dating back to 8th century AH of 5 provinces of Iran, show that a multifoil frame-like strip-shaped form is hidden in enticing and detailed plant decorations which continuous and diverse presence has made it possible to consider it as one of the stylistic features of the stuccoed decoration in the 8th century AH. This form designed in the forms of mihrab, intervening and scallop with folds and rounded or sharp angles, has not only contributed to the case classification (border, arcade, etc.) within which it is placed, but also has sometimes been decorated simply using recurring Kufic inscriptions, including the expression “Almolk Allah” (الملک لله) that has created a unique visual effect.},

title = {Comparative Evaluation of the Effect of Color Factor on Desirability of Urban Furniture Case study; Masjed Hakim and Mohammadbagher Sadr Axes in Isfahan City},
abstract ={The color is one of the forgotten elements in designing urban spaces that can provide legible and harmonic environment for citizens in Islamic cities, according to the principles, values, beliefs and natural and climatic features. Unfortunately, the rapid growth of the urbanization phenomenon in recent decades, especially in developing countries, has dramatically changed the urban landscape, this case in Iranian cities has led to the lack of precision in using the capabilities of the color element in urban furniture, as a part of the artificial landscapes of the city. As a result it is used without any planning and standards, and thus creates confusion and lack of legibility. Isfahan as one of the most distinguished cities in central region of Iran is one of the best examples that has been able to use the color element in order to improve the quality of urban landscape and historical authenticity, maintaining and promoting its authenticity over the years, by protecting remained historical textures. The purpose of the present study is to identify suitable color factors and codes on urban furniture. In this case study, this factor has been investigated based on urban spaces of central regions of Iran with Islamic dominant culture. This research is done by using descriptive-comparative method and library documents and texts, and also the data was gathered in the context of field studies. The research findings obtained through recognizing the context of the design, statistical data as well as comparing and analyzing the color codes of two study axes (The axis of Hakim Mosque in Hakim neighborhood as the old texture, and the axis of Mohammad Bagher Sadr as the new texture in Isfahan) and also by using internal and external successful experiences and principles of using colors in them, shows that color spectrum integration in single and moving elements of urban furniture increases the legibility and identify of the environment, while using a diverse range of colors for other elements of furniture does not distort the two factors of legibility and identity. },

title = {Reading and Assessing the City / Neighborhood FabricAs a Text. Case Study: Sar-Tapulah Historical Neighbourhood inSanandaj},
abstract ={From a linguistic point of view, the city can be seen as a text, consisting of different components and structures being related to each other beyond a sentence. Looking at the city from this point of view, what establishes a syntactic relationship and cohesion and coherence of the components of the city as a common language is called the syntax of the city. Linguistic study of the text of the city requires a branch of linguistics called text linguistics including linguistic rules and elements beyond the sentence. Every literary text arises from the joining of a set of sentences; the relation of these sentences is not just as random as the components of the city text, but the set of all elements and components in a regular relationship creates a structured and coherent whole and provides a harmonious continuum based on certain principles and rules. The combination of these sentences in the city follows both syntactic and semantic rules. Using the principles and rules of linguistics, this paper introduces a methodology for physical and content analysis of the city applying this method for the study of Sar-Tapulah neighborhood of Sanandaj, which is one of the most important neighborhoods of the historical core of this city, in order to evaluate and analyze the criteria of its textuality using urban design techniques and tools. Applying a pathological approach towards this area the paper aims to come up with the strengths and weaknesses of Sar-Tapulah neighborhood based on the textuality criteria. Therefore, the textuality test has been done in this neighborhood based on seven textuality criteria (cohesion, coherence, intertextuality, acceptability, informativity, intention, situationality) using selected urban design techniques and tools. The research findings show Sar-Tapulah neighborhood weak in terms of textuality criteria, and this weakness is due to the deterioration of the neighborhood fabric and lack of attention to the structure of the neighborhood and textuality criteria in its related renovations.},

title = {Investigating the Supplementary Restorations in Persepolis Stone Reliefs based on Achaemenids Worldview: A Comparative Study},
abstract ={Supplementary restoration which as an intervention measure aimed at compensating for the deficiency in historical and art works, like any other protective measure, requires recognizing and understanding the work. A major part of this understanding comes from our perception about the views and insights of the society that owned the concerned heritage with regards to the art as a tool to express itself: that is their worldview. Numerous studies have already been carried out in Europe and other parts of the world, on the subject of the prevailing philosophy and worldview of the people in different periods such as the ancient Greeks and Romans, medieval, renaissance, etc. These studies have resulted in numerous theories, principles and conventions in the field of the conservation/restoration of cultural properties. However in Iran, except for the several scientific studies on the Islamic art and philosophy, not much has been achieved on the Persian people’s worldview during ancient times and notably in Persepolis during Achaemenids period. This is despite the fact that the restoration works in Persepolis World Heritage site follows the same approved paths and principles based on the western worldview. This paper is focused on the survey of the supplementary restorations implemented on the lost parts of the stone reliefs in Persepolis through field studies and literature review, making an effort to investigate the Persians worldview during the time and its relation with art, and ultimately with the restoration of the remaining heritage. To this end, the worldviews of the ancient Greece and Rome are studied, and the two prevalent cultures of the ancient world, those of the Greeks stemming from Greek mythology, and the Iranian culture springing from the monotheistic ethical principles are compared. Considering the fundamental differences between the worldviews and consequently Iranian art history in Achaemenids era, and their counterparts in Europe, especially those of the Greeks – as the culture which produced European art history and thus their conservation and restoration philosophy- it seems that having similar approaches to the conservation and restoration issues, in particular conservation interventions, may not to be accepted solely based on the philosophical approaches and the art history of the Western World, and therefore there might be a need to review the conservation/restoration },

title = {Comparative study of Daylight Design in Safavid Mosque and Renaissance Church ase studies: Jame Abbasi Mosque in Isfahan and St. Peter Church in Rome},
abstract ={This study compares the Safavid Mosque and the Renaissance Church in the field of daylight design. The present study seeks to answer these questions: What methods are used to provide the light in the mosque and church, and what are the similarities and differences between the “qualities of the presence of daylight” in each of these religious buildings? To limit the scope of research, Jame Abbasi Mosque during the Safavid period and the great Church of St. Peter in the Renaissance period were chosen as case studies and all the ways of entering daylight into them were compared relatively. For this purpose, at first, a comprehensive categorization of the ways of daylight entrance in traditional religious buildings was introduced and then techniques of daylight design in these buildings were analyzed and compared by recording field observations through virtual tourism websites and exploring library resources. In the daylight design of the church, since conventional Christian worship does not require much light, the presence of daylight does not require at the level of flow of functions. On the other hand, although in the mosque’s daylight design, the presence of daylight in space was considered, but at the level of running functions, a certain amount of brightness was required. Qibla (direction of performing some rituals) is also one of the prominent elements in daylight design of the mosque, while Qibla and light in the church are intertwined, and churches are completely facing sunrise and sunset. Finally, it can be said that the similarities and differences in the design of daylight in the mosque and the church are due to the climatic, functional and architectural features and are also influenced by Muslims and Christians’ understanding from metaphysics of light.},

title = {Quarter Boundary in Historical Fabrics of Iranian Cities Case Study: Ali Gholi Agha Quarter, Isfahan},
abstract ={The boundary of quarter is among the subjects that have been widely addressed in urban planning and urban design research. Clearly, several studies have examined the issue of “quarter boundaries in the historical fabric of Iranian cities”, but the literature review shows that there are still ambiguities in this regard. There are two contradictory answers to this issue: one group of studies has set clear boundaries for quarters in the historical fabric of Iranian cities, while the other ones consider the boundaries of quarters in these fabrics to be vague and believe that each quarter will reach another quarter gradually. The purpose of this article is identifying the boundary of quarter in these fabrics. In this regard, Ali Gholi Agha quarter in the historical fabric of Isfahan was chosen as a case study and the qualitative research method of conventional content analysis was used. The boundary of Ali Gholi Agha quarter was studied in three ways of historical boundary, quarter boundary based on door-to-door interviews, and subjective boundary drawn by the inhabitants. Among these three ways, the historical boundary discovered based on the historical structure of access and quarter elements, shows the hidden order in the structure and provides a new method to discover the objective boundary of the quarter in the historical fabrics of Iranian cities. Interestingly, the accuracy of the achievements of this method is confirmed by two other boundaries. Finally, it is concluded that there is an objective boundary in some parts of the quarter. This boundary is often in dead ends and darbands (passes through the entrance of the houses in historic fabrics). Also, in the other parts of the quarter where there is no clear boundary, the boundary can be determined based on this objective boundary.},

abstract ={In Islamic cities, mosques have a distinct place. The mosque has long been considered as an essential element of human society in many ways. This study aims to introduce some of the most successful attitudes of spatial communication in today’s mosque architecture scale by examining the architecture of traditional mosques. In space syntax approach, using the three indices of “connectivity”, “integration” and “depth”, the spatial characteristics of the samples are investigated; therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate and identify the spatial relationships in three traditional, contemporary and post-Islamic Revolution mosque architectures. The research methodology in the first part is descriptive-analytical and searching the related literature and in the second part via the pattern analysis and comparative comparison and the plan of four mosques in the three mentioned periods are analyzed, through the experimental method (space pattern analysis) in the software “Space Syntax”. The results show that central organization in the courtyard of Jameh Mosque of Isfahan with spatial communication pattern (space within one space) is more in terms of communication compared to three mosques of Tehran University (complex/shared space between two spaces) and Shahrak-e Gharb (complex/overlapping space) and Al-Ghadir mosque (linear/adjacent Space) and compared with the placement of micro spaces in the organization of Jameh Mosque of Isfahan, the connections in the courtyard is more than other spaces. Also, the interconnection of spaces in Jameh Mosque of Isfahan reflects the level of integration and availability. In terms of depth index in all four mosques, service spaces have the greatest depth and visibility compared to the main space of the mosque (courtyard/ entrance and dome). This quality is organized in the plan of all four mosques with different qualities. },

abstract ={Isfahan’s Julfa neighborhood has been one of the valuable historical neighborhoods related to the Safavid era. It is different from other neighborhoods of the city due to the residents’ cultural-religious differences. Interventions in historical contexts are taking place with a variety of approaches around the world. The present study was conducted to answer this question: What should the inter-productive structures in historical context of Isfahan’s Julfa neighborhood look like? After reviewing the types of interventions and considering the role of users in development types, the populist attitudes as the appropriate statergy was chosen and done through a questionnaire that tested the Julfa residents’ opinions. Regarding the discussion and need to interpret and analyze various categories related to buildings, qualitative method was used, and in the field of evaluating inter-productive structures in historical context, a questionnaire has been applied. The required information was gathered by using library and field survey methods. In compiling the questionnaire, images related to various contexts including Julfa were organized with various types of interventions through reporters’ test, and selected images and questions were distributed among 400 native habitants with at least 10 years of residence. The questions answered by 370 participants were analyzed by using SPSS software. By examining the correlation of variables of different types of inter-productive structures in historical context, it was found that Julfa residents agree more with the existence of significant relationship between texture-related aesthetic criteria and design approaches which are more protected and are in harmony with the existing context in designing new buildings. The findings indicate that the preference of Julfa residents over the approaches of complete conformity to complete contrast was from more to less, respectively. },

abstract ={Environmental quality and different aspects of interior architecture of shopping centers as an effective factor on shopping behaviors of people is of a great importance in creating social interactions. Considering the comprehensiveness of sustainable place model in delivering environmental qualities (functional, experimental-aesthetic and environmental) as well as objectives of the research, the present study examined the experimental-aesthetic quality in commercial centers. Today, with the advent of modernization and huge changes in the system of people’s lives, employing visual and aesthetic elements for emotional and conceptual receptions have been ignored in almost all commercial centers in Iran. The main concerns of this study to establish social interactions includes following the original concepts of traditional bazaars for recognizing and understanding the space and applying modern methods of interior design of prosperous commercial centers in different parts of the world. The main question of this study is that “What are the solutions of interior designs of commercial spaces by considering the experimental-aesthetic quality in traditional bazaars and successful commercial centers in order to have successful social interactions?” This study aimed to introduce the criteria and micro-components of experimental-aesthetic quality (form and body, mental conceptions, visual quality of place, public arena, and emotional quality and space arrangement) in order to increase social interactions and explain the interior design solutions in commercial centers. The method was analytical-descriptive and the concepts were extracted by content analysis and coding the collected data through MAXQDA12 Software. Then, among the designed solutions based on micro-components of experimental-aesthetic quality, a survey for reporters was designed and conducted in the form of a quastionnaire, and the results were evaluated by the SPSS software. Finally, among the evaluated design strategies, visual attractions were extracted through color and light reflection related to the visual quality of place and space design in such a way that it can be used by everyone and is related to the quality of the public arena that had the highest priority in the survey. },

title = {Explaining and Evaluating the Effective Factors in Improving the Quality of Children’s Playgrounds in Cities with an Emphasis on Safety and Security Aspects of Children from Parents’ Viewpoint; Case study: Koodak Park of Isfahan},
abstract ={Abstract Childhood games are essential for the development of cognitive, psychological, and physical skills. Playgrounds are spaces that provide the required opportunity to develop the fundamental skills and needs of children, such as connections with nature, games, activities, and so forth. Therefore, the presence of children in these areas requires the provision of a safe and secure environment for them. Accordingly, this study aims at identifying factors affecting on the quality of children’s playground, evaluating the factors affecting the safety and security of children in playgrounds as one of the most important qualities of children’s play spaces, providing a design framework to enhance the safety and security of children in order to improve the quality of playgrounds. This study is practical in purpose, and descriptive-analytical in terms of research type. The exploratory factor analysis method has been used to achieve the research goal. In this project, the children’s play space in Koodak Park of Isfahan was investigated based on 35 effective indicators on children’s safety and security, and 300 of the parents of the kids playing in the park were questioned. According to the results of Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin and Bartlett’s tests, the sample size was approved for the research (KMO=0/746 & SIG=0/0001). The results of this research indicate that the factors affecting the safety and security of kids in the play area in Koodak Park are as follows: 1- Climatic tranquility in children’s play spaces 2- The conditions of play space flooring 3- Children’s safety when using the play equipment and the green area embedded in it 4- The lighting of play spaces and the harmony with its vegetation 5- The distance from compatible applications and functions 6- The conditions of the presence of parents in the playground and its maintenance 7-The awareness of the conditions of the playground and its surrounding area among the users 8- The vulnerability of children regarding the play equipment and the vegetation 9-The possibility to monitor children and their activities in the playground 10- Different types of pollution in the play space and its vicinity. abstract ={The function of a space in a building greatly depends on the position of that space in its general configuration system and its desirable performance occurs when the space in relation to other parts of the building can meet the expectations of its users. This topic is known in the literature for functional efficiency. For this purpose, the present study by selecting 18 homes of the Qajar period in Tabriz has analyzed the functional efficiency changes of these houses in line with their structural-spatial transformations. The quality of access in this study, known as the independent variable, was measured in terms of four indicators of permeability, flexibility, spatial integration, and relation between components, and the impact of each of these indicators on the functional efficiency of the houses was analyzed. The results of the research indicated that high-quality accessibility indexes were found in homes built in the early and mid-Qajar period, However, at the end of the Qajar period, these indicators declined, the most important factor in this regard is chaning the architectural system from introverted to extroverted and changing the function of the courtyard from a server space to a mere passageway space. },

title = {Applying the Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) Method in the Designation of Character Areas and the Physical Conservation of the Historic Urban Landscape (Case Study: Lar Old City, Fars, Iran)},
abstract ={The Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) of the city is shaped by several layers of explicit and implicit contextual values that distinguish it from other landscapes. Sustaining these contextual characteristics and values as a whole is made possible by a thorough understanding and putting in place measures to preserve and enhance them. This article, in the absence of methodologies to delineate and redefine heritage conservation areas, and respond to the inadequacy of the definition of the heritage buildings regulatory Buffer Zones, seeks to present a new approach aimed at the physical protection of features (including architectural and natural dimensions) of the Historic Urban Landscape in the city of Lar (as the case study). In this regard, the CACA (Conservation Area Character Appraisal) method has been applied, which is measured by four criteria including “evidence-base,” “historical value,” “aesthetic and architectural value,” and “authenticity and integrity.” To this end, the study has assessed the criteria in two scales using two conservation approaches of “point-based” (focused on single heritage buildings) and “area-based” focusing on the characteristics of a conservation area. The present study is an applied research and has used qualitative and quantitative methods in a consolidated way. Initially, and with a “point-based” approach through field surveys and interviews with experts, valuable heritage buildings (in addition to registered heritage elements) have been identified. This step was intended to further the inclusion of relevant heritage elements. Then, weighting the criteria by the experts and incorporating them into the AHP process, the ranking of the importance of the criteria and sub-criteria is attempted. In the next step, using the “Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW)” method in GIS software, the historic fabric “conservation areas” of Lar City are identified around valuable points in the form of “character areas.” These zones have been proposed in three levels with high (grade 1), moderate (grade 2), and low (grade 3) characters. The designation of these areas will serve as a criterion for taking into account the regulations for intervention and conservation of the Historic Urban Landscape of the city.},

abstract ={Abu Hamid al-Ghazālī was a mystic, jurist and a theologian, lived in the fifth century AH, who had significantly influenced Iranian culture. His greatest work is Iḥyaʾ ʿūlm al-dīnʾ, which he wrote to revive the religious knowledge, in his seclusion period and with the subject of “transaction knowledge”, therefore there could be found architectural information in it. This research is dedicated to understanding Al-Ḡazālī’s principles for architecture and its status in Eḥyāʾ. This was done by the interpretation approach, reading and interpreting the original text of Eḥyāʾ. The focus of this research is the book of Eḥyāʾ, and it referred to other Ghazalis and secondary resources only for a better understanding of this book. This paper is the result of organizing the collected findings of Eḥyāʾ and the argument for understanding Al-Ḡazālī’s principles about architecture. The outcome of this research is two different narratives of al-Ghazālī about the craftsmen. The first narrative is about the social status of architect. The architect in this status is a craftsman who is among the ordinary people. Ordinary people’s essence is neglecting and this neglect retains the world’s order. One must be ascetic and devote himself to his crafts. At this level, not constructing is better than constructing and desolation is better than development. At the second level, Al-Ghazali’s view is quite different. By this level the architect, regardless of his/her social status, can be a prosperous servant of God, exceed the institution of asceticism, and achieves the status of affection, the highest authority. He needs to be engaged mindfully in his craft, to seek the meanings from the appearances of the world, build what reminds of the most beloved, God, and develop the world by his body while desolate it in his inwardness.},

title = {Pathology of Legislation and Legal Approvals Related to Texture and Building Management},
abstract ={Today, the importance and special position of the historical texture and buildings in the city is completely obvious. However, the issue of protecting, supporting and restoring historical texture and valuable historical buildings in Iran is not seriously, scientifically and legally pursued by top level of management and popular demand. Historical texture and buildings are increasingly in danger, day by day. Although several public associations and non-government organizations keep tracking the protection of historical buildings, they won’t be effective as they do not have legal role and position in decision-making and actions. Therefore, the importance of legal and lawful dimensions to pass or change these conditions will be considerable. Accordingly, using a qualitative method as well as legal hermeneutical approach, a review of consistent and related rules has been done and consequently a brief pathology has been provided based on the protecting and restoring rules and in comparison, with global commissions and agreements. The results of these studies indicate that existing laws need to be revised, modified and completed. In addition, there are a number of legal gaps that require the enactment of new laws to address overlooked issues in the existing set of laws. Among them, some issues are more important. Therefore, in order to prioritize each reform issue in law, a process of priori has been done with the experts and specialists’ views. The results of interviews with experts and the prioritization indicated that documentary issues, monitoring building protection and recovery in law content as well as the issue of law enforcement are the main challenges of law reform.},

title = {Measuring and Prioritizing the Quality of Identity in Historical Context Using the Entropy- Topsis Technique (Case Study: Sang-e-siyah Quarter)},
abstract ={Shiraz has precious historical textures that various parts and objects have been added to during contemporary city developments that these process and changes sometimes damaging its identity. Since historic textures have turned to lose identity, land prices drop down, main and old residents departure, new residents are disruptively interfering urban and architectural interventions. Today, the erosion and destruction of the historical texture of Shiraz, especially Sang-e Siyah quarter, is considered as a serious threat to the decline and damage to the cultural-historical identity of the city. Therefore, paying special attention to the identity and preservation of buildings and historical context is a priority for urban management. The main question is: “what are the strategies for maintaining and promoting identity to the historical context of the Sang-e-siyah? The purpose of this research is to prioritize and measure identity indices in the context of the Sang-e-Siyah zone, and reviving the historical context. The type of research is “applied research” and is based on analytical-descriptive and survey method. The required data is extracted from questionnaires and observations by using some software namely, “Excel2016”, “Ghrafer” and “Visio” and “Topsis” technique. The nature and weight of each of the index is determined using the “Shannon Entropy” method. Hence, in this research, independent variables including: spatial organization, structure, ecological structure, sense of place, social interactions, sense of security, diversity of customs and traditions and cultural heritage, historicity, meaning, legibility, viability and diversity, and dependent variables such as identity and physical identity, dimensions such as location of the neighborhood, permeability, ancient sites, traffic and transportation, vegetation, interaction between inhabitants, security, tourism, natural and artificial signs, value cultural activities, vitality and diversity of activities within the scope have been analyzed. The findings of the research indicate that from the inhabitants’ point of views, structure, ecological and security, and in domestic tourists’ views, attachment to places, historical places, culture, common rituals and beliefs of the neighborhood, and from the foreign tourists’ point of view attaching to the location, the diversity of historical places and culture, general rites and beliefs and the awareness of the antiquity of neighborhood are weak. Finally, according to residents and tourists’ opinions, suggestions and solutions are presented. It can be found that many components of the identity of the historical monuments of neighborhoods (factors that cause identity and the creation of symbols and signs) are either lost or weakened over time. Using identity-based measures can help to revive them and reinforce the dynamism of the neighborhood. },

title = {The Principles of Conservation-based Organization of Historic Paths Through Benchmarking Method on Organization Experience of Iran and Other Countries (Case Study: The Organization of a Historic Roadway and Pathway in Isfahan under Status Assessment)},
abstract ={Paths are the most important urban spaces and account for the city and its historic district’s main structure. In the past, the geometry of historic cities revolved around old bazar rows and passages. However, with the advent of motorized vehicles and subsequent chess roads in historical texture, organic geometry and hierarchy of paths net, integrity and structure of historic district were disrupted. The main aim of this study is to provide optimal access while preserving the values of historical texture and this can be achieved through the establishment of a conservation framework for the organization of historic paths. This framework must cope with the conservation of historical identity, maintenance of human morale, dealing with social issues and at the same time providing access for motorists. The experience gained from reforming Iran’s historical paths shows that the main concern has been the provision of access for motorists. The inefficiency of past organizations, despite their enormous cost, necessitates benchmarking on global expriences to specify the principles of conservation-based organization of historical paths and to determine the similarities and differences between the reformation of Iran and the world. Without such a study, the vain cycle of organizing historic paths inefficiently could be repeated over and over again. In effect, studies reveal that one of the most important causes of stagnation and abandonment of the historical district is the inefficiency of its paths. To this date, no comprehensive conservation-based studies on the organization of the paths in Iran’s historical district have been carried out and the shortage of the research literature in this field is evident. This study compares, for the first time, the organization of the Iranian historic paths with that of other countries through benchmarking method. The purpose of the present study is to achieve the principles of conservation-based organization of the paths in historical textures. The method of data collection is library and empirical and this is a cross-sectional field study. The results showed that the organization of the Iranian paths is sketchy since it lacks planning and positive attitude towards conservation. In case study, the organization of pathway and roadway was also incomplete and of poor quality grade. In the end, the principles of conservation-based organization of the paths in historical texture and the essence of historical passages are presented as the framework for likely future organization project.},

title = {Regeneration of the Ancient Narrative of Urban Landscape by Reproducing Sign-meanings in the Text Layers},
abstract ={Signs with the codes that have gradually emerged during the formation and development of the city in different periods, have become familiar in the minds of the audience of the city, and the emotions, feelings, and memories of people related to their place of residence in connection are formed with these signs. The signs in the city are part of a larger and more complex universe, they are not single and alone, on the contrary, they are multi-layered, because we are constantly rewriting and rebuilding our surroundings-both physically and contently. This Layers sitting together occurs in the process of time, the time of genesis, and the time of reading the city as a text written on the Plaimpsest. Obviously, the thicker the historical layers, the more difficult it is to read the underlying language. Given this, the main question of this study is; how is it possible to regenerate an ancient narrative such as an urban landscape that has different layers and is difficult to read? To achieve this goal, authors use layered semiotics and discourse analysis as an analytical method, because urban signs are considered as the most basic criteria in the process of recognizing, pathologizing, and protecting the values of a city, due to their physical characteristics and contractual and social aspects attached to them. This method has achieved the narrative of the city, through the discourse that is the result of the connection between the different layers and periods of the city’s life, then new discourses have been created, and leads to reproduction of meaning, as a result, the signs have moved forward through the interaction with each other, and due to the dynamics of the signal flow, the texture/context is formed. Creating texture does not limit the city on a specific time-space frame, and moves in line with the development process, accepts changes, and at the same time stays connected to the previous network with its cryptographic connection. },

abstract ={Hekâyate Hammâme Djenniân is a story written in two versions during the constitutional era. This unique document is one of the few writings in which modern architecture and Iranian architectural traditions are discussed and argued, the main concern of this writing is architecture. The story is about a father and his son who went to a traditional public bath, and face challenges, then they have a critical discussion about Iranian culture, architecture, traditions, and beliefs. Introducing, analyzing, correcting, and rewriting parts of this story have shown that the criticisms in this story about public baths in Iran can be divided into four general groups; spatial organization, sanitization and hygiene in Iranian traditional public baths, stairs in Iranian architecture, and the absence of a governmental institution which regulates the constructions. The solution proposed by the characters of the story in the face of these problems is designing baths in a new way, and their major solution is to increase the public awareness towards architectural and urban issues. This article show that at least some of the differences in the acceptance or rejection of the new architecture which has been extended to the early modern period, especially in the field of constructing and organizing public baths, can be the result of a kind of difference in reading religious issues of two groups involved in the constitutional era, which are generalized to architecture, and that the arguments of both sides for or against changing the patterns of pre-modern baths, were religious in many cases.},

title = {The Degrees of Conservation of Architectural Heritage},
abstract ={Conservation of architectural works is based on cognition of the architecture and architecture is like a container for human life. The human forms architecture to answer his needs, however s/he has soul, in addition to body, and while human’s needs are various, they have hierarchical degrees. It means that the man has physical needs and in a higher degree has spiritual needs. Then architecture has physical aspects and also intangible aspects. If the aim of conservation of architectural work is its continuity, then the conservation also should be in degrees. The question is what the degrees of conservation are. And what the relationship between these degrees is. To answer these questions in order to pay attention to the nature of architecture and protect its integrity, what and how the levels of existence in the world are discussed, because certainly the degrees of human existence and his needs, architecture and protection are sequence of that. So in this research by deduction and logical reasoning the questions will be answered. It happens by adapting the rules of the universe to architecture and then conservation. At last three degrees of conservation related to three degrees of architecture are declared: The lowest one is degree of material which forms the tangible and physical aspect of architecture. It is correspondent to sense and physical needs of human made by natural materials (lowest degree of universe). In this degree conservation in also based on survey about physical aspects and conserving values related to them. At this stage, patterns and rules are the factor of shaping architecture, through symbolism and metaphor, this level is beyond the body and material. So conserving architectural is based on understanding and replicating them wisely. Corresponding to it in man is the power of reason and in the universe is the level of reason. Protecting this level requires education, not just training, human to strengthen the ability of reading meaning. These levels are intertwined in the longitudinal system, depending on passing the lower levels. },

abstract ={The mutual interaction between man and the environment can be considered as the foundation of social events’ place. The cultural landscape as the result of nature, culture, and history, carries the cultural-natural values which are based on the interaction between human and nature throughout the history. Thus, neglecting cultural landscape as a vital indicator to create perceptual communication can break the meaningful connection between humans and the environment. Accordingly, the main objectives of this research are to find out the constituent components of the Abbas Abad cultural landscape and to identify the unknown aspects of the unique values of these components in the selected case study. The present study with the interpretivism paradigm, has a theoretical-practical nature, and is designed with a qualitative approach and mixed strategies including case study and comparative historical studies. The sampling strategy in field data was targeted non-random. The required data was collected through library and field (interviewing with 13 experts based on the saturation principle) methods. Finding of this process, along with content analysis of historical-comparative study strategy documents, led to the extraction of research findings. Designing urban space based on the cultural landscape as a multi-pronged phenomenon, by shaping a new experience from the urban landscape, will create a social motive as a stimulus to enhance the quality of urban life within tangible and intangible aspects. It means that social life in cities and people’s mental interwoven connection to the city is influenced by the cultural landscape used in urban areas that enhance the sense of belonging and permanence in the process of generational change. On the other hand, addressing the effective physical qualities in the environment such as the scale, distance, time and perception conditions are very effective in creating a connection between the audience and the environment. In other words, using these criteria will enhance the spirit of the place and the beauty of all the processes in a period of time with a certain quality, because the citizen’s mental entanglement will be formed when there is a sense of belonging to the city, in such a way that people consider themselves as active citizens in constructing the city. },

abstract ={Iranian architecture has concepts that are meaningful in terms of Iranian-Islamic thought, culture and beliefs. One of these concepts which has influenced on Iranians’ lives is the index of privacy. This concept can be seen in various architectural and residential constructions in different periods before and after Islam.Considering the background of this issue in the culture of Iranian life, it seems that the manifestation of this concept in contemporary housing patterns is different from the cases that have been common in traditional patterns. This issue is greatly influenced by the differences in the architectural system of these two models and also the changes in the way of people’s lives in the contemporary era compared to the past. The present study intends to analyze the different dimensions of the concept of privacy by analyzing the spatial structure in traditional housing architecture and apartment model as the most common housing model in the contemporary era. Accordingly, by selecting three houses with a traditional pattern in the historical context of Shiraz and three apartment houses in the new context of Sadra City as a contemporary model and analyzing their spatial organization, the study has examined the concept of privacy in them. In this study, each of the indicators was analyzed separately and the results were presented in the form of comparative analysis, after extracting the indicators of analysis based on the literature. Finally, the results showed that privacy and the related indices can be seen more frequently in traditional houses as inseparable principles and components. Due to the changes in the architecture and construction of modern houses, the issue of privacy has faded to some extent in these houses, and by limiting physical access to spaces, more emphasis is placed on the formation of privacy.},

Today, conservation is considered to be more of an intrinsic activity based on values, and values have always been the main reason for preserving heritage. It is clear that no society will try to preserve something that is not valuable to them. Therefore, it is necessary to identify and classify values before any inspection, diagnosis, and determine the degree of interventions in the conservation process. In all scientific researches about architectural heritage, the sustainability of the conservation process has been limitedly analyzed. Therefore, it is not possible to gain a clear understanding of the architectural sustainability involved in the conservation process. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the sustainable (physical-semantic) protection of architectural heritage in order to explain the model taken by experts. The research method in this article is qualitative-quantitative; So that after identifying the physical and semantic values of architectural heritage, by examining the literature and in consultation with experts, by linear regression test, the effect of the main and sub-main components of semantic conservation on the variance of physical conservation has been determined. Then, to explain the relationship between semantic and physical conservation and related subcomponents, the Pearson correlation test is used and the final model has been presented. The reliability of the test was confirmed based on Cronbach’s alpha technique and content validity based on the experts’ opinion. According to the obtained model, it can be concluded that the conservation of the authentic architectural heritage is possible only with the continuous interaction of physical and semantic conservation with their relevant sub-components simultaneously. Also, the main subcomponents in the physical conservation of historical buildings include elements of materials, ornamentation, structural system, façade, geometry and in the semantic conservation are cultural, identity, economic, integrity, historical, aesthetic, social, and authenticity values.},
