Abstract
After the destruction of the Bam citadel by the earthquake in 2003, the restoration of the citadel started based on a ten-year action plan. Due to lack of enough experience and knowledge for restoration and strengthening of historical adobe structures in Iran and in order to elevate the experience and knowledge, the study of the causes of destruction of an adobe shop in the bazaar of the citadel and preparation of its restoration and strengthening plan was performed as a pilot project. The main objective was the restoration of the adobe shop as its situation before the earthquake and strenghtening in order to widstand future earthquakes. Research method was a historical-field-analytical approach. After studying available literature about the history and architecture of the citale and shops of bazaar, and vernacular techniques and materiasl used in its construciton, a wide fieldwork for documentation and pathology was conducted. The strengthening and resotration plan was suggested based on charters for restoration of historical buildings and then it was simulated by a software. Obtained results indicated that if the building were restored without strengthening it had a weak behaviour against future earthquakes and it would experience the same damages. Analyses showed that it is possible to improve structural behaviour and eliminate seismic damages by inserting a number of strengthening wooden elements at the corners of walls and edges of openings and then tieing them at rool level a reversible method with minimum invervention. In addition, by underpinning and partial reconstruction, grout injection and reconstruction of missing connections it is possible to restore the building stronger than before, so that it would have an acceptable strength against future earthquakes.

Abstract
The ruins of impressive structure made by adobe known as the city of “Belgheis” is located 3 km from Esfarayen in the province of North Khorasan of Iran. The role of soil quality in the occurrence of damages to clay and adobe structures of Belqis area is the purpose of this research. Choosing the right soil is the first step in the preparation of adobe, Therefore, it is necessary to study the role of soil. The collected samples were analyzed by using Physical, chemical and mineralogical studies. The fine-grained soil texture is full of sand, silt with reduction of clay. also, the destructive phases of Muscovite and Calcite are in samples. All of These are in accordance with soil studies of the region. these cases as Physical and Chemical was determined as parameters of soil in process of Damage caused by descending humidity.
